The St. Louis Blues saw their longest winning streak of the season end in their last game. An advantageous schedule could allow them to start a new run. The Blues look to rebound from their worst defensive performance in two years when they visit the New York Islanders on Thursday night. St. Louis won a season-high five in a row before falling 7-3 at Colorado on Saturday. The club allowed its highest goal total since losing by the same score at Calgary on March 10, 2008. The Blues are 11th in the Western Conference, six points back of the Flames for eight place.

St. Louis, 4-2-0 in its last six road contests, faces Columbus on Saturday after its matchup with the Islanders - a last-place team like the Blue Jackets. The Blues conclude their six-game trip Sunday against Minnesota, loser of three straight, and also visit the New York Rangers - another team that has struggled of late - on Tuesday. Alex Steen scored two goals against the Avalanche and has three goals and three assists in his last three games. His 18 goals match a career high from 2005-06 when he was a rookie with Toronto.

When Marco Sturm scored in overtime to give Boston a 2-1 win over Philadelphia at Fenway Park on Jan. 1, the Bruins hoped the Winter Classic victory would propel them toward a strong second-half run. Instead, they’ve continued to struggle with injuries, and they may again be without their top forward and defenseman Thursday as they face the Flyers for the first time since their dramatic outdoor victory. Philadelphia has surged past the Bruins in the Eastern Conference playoff chase and will be looking for a sixth consecutive home victory.

Boston was 21-12-7 after beating the Flyers at Fenway, and the Bruins figured they could only improve after an injury-riddled start to the season. Instead, Boston has gone 8-12-5 since New Year’s Day, including a 10-game losing streak Jan. 16-Feb. 6. Now, the Bruins are dealing with two more key injuries. Forward Marc Savard and captain Zdeno Chara both missed Tuesday’s 4-3 overtime loss at Eastern Conference-worst Toronto. Chara, the reigning Norris Trophy winner, is day-to-day with a lower-body injury.
