Watch New York Rangers vs Ottawa Senators Live Online
The banged up and reeling Rangers are just 1-4-1 in their last six road games, while the Sens are kicking off a five-game homestand with an afternoon contest. BothThis is the second meeting of the season between the teams. The Rangers won the first meeting 5-2 at Madison Square Garden on opening night.

They've won just three of their past 11 games and were beaten 5-3 at home by Atlanta on Thursday. Centers Brandon Dubinsky and Chris Drury are out indefinitely. Does that mean lineup changes are afoot? "I am not sure what we are going to do. It is hard," Rangers coach John Tortorella said. "Am I interested in play guys 27, 28 minutes? No, I don't think that is a great situation. I am hoping other guys step so they'll get the minutes."

Facing former Senators goalie Ray Emery on Thursday night, Ottawa hung tough with the Flyers for two periods. But a three-goal outburst buried the Sens in a 5-1 loss.
Coach Cory Clouston didn't have many kind words for starting goaltender Pascal Leclaire. "We need more from (Leclaire). For the most part, the games we've won, he's been there for us," he said. "When he's been there, the chances of us winning are pretty good. For the most part, he's made some timely saves in our wins. The last little while, he has given up some goals that have lost some momentum for us."

Two teams heading in opposite directions -- the Wings have won five of their last six to climb into a playoff spot, while the Ducks have lost four of their last six to slip to 14th in the Western Conference. Last season, the Red Wings won three of the four games, including a pair of one-goal wins. Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg each had 3 goals and 3 assists in the four games. Detroit also edged Anaheim in seven games in the Western Conference Semifinals.

In the last few days, GM Bob Murray has had to quash talk of a coaching change, hear goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere go public with his demands to be the No. 1 goalie and deal with rumors circulating about captain Scott Niedermayer going on the trading block. About the future of coach Randy Carlyle, Murray was unequivocal: "There's going to be a lot of players shipped out before the coach is," he told the Orange County Register. "We have a damn good coach and he's proven he can coach in this League.

Detroit has high hopes for goaltender Jimmy Howard, and in the last two games, he's looked like the future in goal. With Chris Osgood out with the flu, Howard was pressed into duty in back-to-back games against Columbus and Vancouver. But Howard looked good in both games, allowing just one even-strength goal in a pair of victories.

Watch Washington Capitals vs New Jersey Devils Live Online
We could see the return of Ovechkin to the Capitals lineup. He's missed the last five games with an upper-body strain, but coach Bruce Boudreau said he's a "possibility" for Saturday's game. The Caps have won four straight in Ovi's absence, but they could use him considering the Devils are the hottest team in the NHL with seven straight wins, including three at home starting with that win Nov. 4 against the Caps. Washington still leads the East with 28 points.

Could it be that losing Ovechkin for two weeks was the best possible thing to happen to this team? Well, maybe not, but without Ovi the Caps have found a way to play a more complete team game. Their defense, as evidenced by their 3-1 victory over Minnesota on Friday night, has been good and their goaltending solid. Jose Theodore may start tonight after Semyon Varlamov made 29 saves in Friday's win.

Despite a blue line that does not include the injured Johnny Oduya and Paul Martin, the Devils' No. 1 defenseman and ice-time eater, New Jersey has allowed only nine goals during its seven-game winning streak. Martin Brodeur is showing the folks at Hockey Canada why he is still really the only option they have to start in the Olympics (provided he's healthy). Defenseman Andy Greene has subbed for Martin and looks great. He's played 26 minutes a game during the winning streak. Rookie wing Niclas Bergfors is coming on and Zach Parise is quietly putting together another fantastic season with 21 points in 17 games.

Watch Buffalo Sabres vs Philadelphia Flyers Live Online

Watch Buffalo Sabres vs Philadelphia Flyers Live Online
Philly is on a roll with five consecutive wins, including a drawing-away 5-1 victory Thursday over Ottawa in which the Flyers scored three unanswered third-period goals. The first line of Jeff Carter centering Danny Briere and rookie James van Riemsdyk was together for the first time in four games. Briere scored twice, van Riemsdyk once and Carter had two assists. Buffalo has led the Northeast Division all season on the strength of Miller's goaltending -- he was brilliant again on Friday as the Sabres beat Calgary 2-1 in a shootout.

The Sabres started 9-2-1 and had the NHL's best defense before two bad losses last weekend. Coach Lindy Ruff attributed the losses to illness and a busy early schedule and lightened up on his team, although he sent a "team wake-up" message by putting veteran defensive forward Adam Mair on waivers. Mair passed through waivers and will likely be a healthy scratch. The Sabres have scored only 11 non-shootout goals in their past six games -- and that might not be good enough against Philadelphia. Miller has made a career of "stealing" games in these situations.

They started the season sluggishly and then suffered a slew of injuries. But while waiting for the injured players to return, they discovered they have great depth at forward and defense and started the current winning streak. The injured players know they're not entitled to the jobs they're returning to -- they have to play well to keep them. Job insecurity will keep everyone's legs churning. Ray Emery, with every game, is looking more and more like the goalie the Flyers have been seeking for years.

The Islanders still can't hold onto leads -- they blew a 3-0 first-period advantage at Carolina on Friday before Kyle Okposo's OT goal gave them a 4-3 victory over the reeling Hurricanes. It was the ninth time in 19 games they've gone beyond regulation time, but only the third time they've gone home with two points.

Tavares comes to South Florida for the first time after his first two-goal game in the NHL. He scored twice in the first period as the Isles jumped to a 3-0 lead, which they blew before Kyle Okposo scored with 15 seconds left in overtime to win it.Tavares now leads all rookies with 7 goals and 16 points. Though much is expected from anyone taken with the No. 1 pick, Tavares is producing more than his coach thought he would.

Tomas Vokoun has only four victories this season, but three have been shutouts -- including Thursday's shootout win at Boston in which he made 40 saves through 65 minutes, then stopped four more shots in the shootout before Cory Stillman scored against Boston's Tim Thomas to win it. Vokoun did his best work in the second period, which ended with no score even though Boston outshot the Panthers 19-1.

Watch Calgary Flames vs Toronto Maple Leafs Live Online
First of two meetings this season between Canadian rivals. Toronto pays a visit to Calgary on Jan. 2, 2010. Each team won on its home ice last season, with the Flames claiming a 4-3 win behind a pair of Dustin Boyd goals and the Leafs prevailing in a wild 8-6 barnburner as Mikhail Grabovski scored twice.

A goaltending duel Friday night between Miikka Kiprusoff and Ryan Miller didn't go Calgary's way, as Buffalo came away 2-1 winners in a shootout. The Flames had won three straight road games since a 2-1 defeat in Columbus exactly one month earlier. Daymond Langkow opened the scoring just 1:04 into the game, but Derek Roy evened things up on the power play later in the first and Jason Pominville's shootout goal proved decisive.

The return of Phil Kessel and streaks of two straight wins and seven straight games with at least one point inspired visions of a turnaround in Leafs Nation, but Toronto has now dropped consecutive games in regulation to Minnesota and Chicago. Kessel did his best to rally the Leafs from a 3-0 deficit Friday, scoring twice against the Blackhawks, but they came up a goal short. Vesa Toskala did turn in a strong effort with 31 saves.

Watch Boston Bruins vs Pittsburgh Penguins Live Online
The Bruins aren't scoring much more than the Penguins lately, but while the Pens can pinpoint injuries to big guns like Evgeni Malkin for their offensive fall-off, the B's have struggled with the problem all year, even though their defense and goaltending have been top-notch. They've given up a total of six goals in regulation over the past six games and have only two wins to show for it.

The B's are beginning a stretch where they will play five of their next six games on the road, punctuated only by a home tilt against the Islanders on Monday in which Red Sox star David "Big Papi" Ortiz will drop the first puck. Unlike those heavy-hitting Sox, though, this team lives on shut-down defense. Eight games have passed since the B's have allowed more than two goals in a game. They had a similar streak of five games last year, in which they went undefeated. This time, it's only a 3-3-2 mark.

After starting the season red-hot, the Penguins have had a lot of that early steam taken out of them. Six key players are down with injuries, but one of the most important players in the league may see action against the Bruins. Malkin, sidelined by a strained right (non-shooting) shoulder, has been cleared for contact and may be ready to go.

A pair of non-playoff teams from a season ago who both rank in the top eight of their respective conferences meet. The Kings find themselves in second place in the Pacific Division and significantly better after 20 games than their 8-9-3 mark of a year ago. Meanwhile, the Lightning reached the 16-game mark in much better shape than last November, when they were 4-10-2 and Barry Melrose didn't survive to coach the 17th game, being replaced behind the bench by Rick Tocchet.

It's probably a good thing Los Angeles is playing for the second time in as many nights, because Friday's effort was certainly a clunker. The Kings want to erase the memory of their 7-0 loss in Atlanta as quickly as possible. Jonathan Quick was pulled after allowing three goals on 14 shots and backup Erik Ersberg fared even worse, giving up four more goals on just seven shots.

Only two NHL teams have made it this far without a regulation loss on home ice: San Jose (6-0-2) and Tampa Bay (5-0-3). The Lightning had to work to keep that streak intact, as they trailed Minnesota 3-1 after two periods on Thursday before Steve Downie scored midway through the third and Ryan Malone forced overtime on a power-play goal with 14.7 seconds left. Lecavalier and Steven Stamkos then scored in the shootout for a 4-3 victory.

Coyotes coach Dave Tippett is coaching against the Stars for the first time since being fired during the summer. He guided Dallas for six seasons, leading the club to five playoff appearances, two division titles and a trip the 2008 Western Conference Final. Tippett's teams averaged 47 wins over his first five seasons and notched more than 100 points on three occasions.

This is the third game in a four-game road trip that began with a 3-2 loss in Minnesota and a 3-2 shootout victory at San Jose. The Stars are coming off one of the most exciting wins of the season, a come-from-behind victory against the Sharks in San Jose, one of the toughest road venues in the NHL.

This is the second game in a three-game home stand that began with a 4-2 loss against Montreal on Thursday. In losing to the Canadiens, Phoenix surrendered three goals in the third period after being tied 1-1 after 40 minutes. "We struggled moving the puck out of our end, we struggled moving the puck through the neutral zone and we didn't generate a whole lot," Tippett said. "There were not a lot of shots and not a lot of quality scoring opportunities."

It was an uneven start to the season for San Jose, but 10 straight games with at least one point have vaulted the Sharks back into the lead for the Presidents' Trophy, which they are attempting to defend. St. Louis finds itself at the opposite end of the spectrum, with the third-fewest points in the Western Conference and trying to get out of the Central Division basement, where the Blues fell after losing at home to Nashville on Thursday.

Although the point streak continued, San Jose couldn't have been very pleased with Thursday's outcome, as Dallas rallied from a two-goal deficit in the third period and won at the Shark Tank in a shootout, 3-2. Still, it was hardly cause for panic in the Sharks locker room.

It's imperative that St. Louis figure out how to win consistently on home ice, as it's in the middle of a six-game stretch at the Scottrade Center. The Blues used a four-goal first period to rout Vancouver 6-1 on Tuesday, but followed that up with a clunker against Nashville, losing 3-1 as the Predators jumped over them into fourth.

With the Preds' win over the Blues on Thursday, Nashville climbed out of last place in the Central Division. The Predators host Montreal for the first time since Feb. 22, 2007, and will try to grab a sixth win in their last eight, while the Canadiens will try to secure two straight wins for the first time in three weeks. Saturday's game also marks the first time Predators defenseman Francis Bouillon plays against his former Montreal team, where he spent the better part of nine seasons.

With the 4-2 win in Phoenix on Thursday, the Canadiens won just their third game in the last eight, but more importantly Carey Price picked up his first regulation win of the season and the Habs got their power play going. Coming in with one of the lowest-scoring power plays in the League this season, Montreal converted both of its opportunities against the Coyotes with goals from Mike Cammalleri and Glen Metropolit.

After giving up an early first-period goal to the Blues on Thursday, the Predators rebounded with three straight tallies and outshot St. Louis 37-22. Jordin Tootoo, who missed the first 13 games of the season with an injury, scored the unassisted game-winner. "We stayed persistent for 60 minutes and it paid off," coach Barry Trotz said. "It was a good effort, especially on the road."

The Canucks will be concluding a five-game, 10-day road trip when they meet the Avalanche at Pepsi Center for the second time this season. Vancouver is 1-3-0 so far and has dropped three in a row following a 3-1 loss to Detroit on Thursday. The Canucks had better get used to traveling, as they'll embark on an historic six-week sabbatical away from home beginning Jan.

Goalie Roberto Luongo was pushed into duty earlier than expected on Wednesday after missing six games with a rib fracture. Luongo saw his first action since Oct. 27 when he replaced an ineffective Raycroft (4 goals allowed on 13 shots) after the first period of a 6-1 loss at St. Louis. He looked comfortable, yielding two power-play goals on 17 shots. On Thursday, he started and was relatively sharp in a 26-save loss to the Red Wings.

Since starting the season 10-1-2, the Avalanche have come down to earth a bit, going 2-3-1 over their last six. Perhaps a new jersey will do the trick -- the Avs will unveil their new third jerseys on Saturday against the Canucks. The new sweaters have a dominant blue color, unlike the mainly-burgundy regular home jerseys.
