While Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller continues to gain attention in the wake of his outstanding performance in the Olympics, Marty Turco turned in a spectacular one of his own for the Dallas Stars his last time out. The netminders will be in the spotlight Wednesday night when Miller’s Sabres look to defeat the Stars and Turco for the fifth straight time. Buffalo won 2-1 in overtime on the road against the Rangers on Sunday as Miller made 35 saves. Miller stayed in Manhattan on Monday to do a media tour, taking advantage of his newfound fame after leading the United States to a silver medal in the Olympics.

Turco was enduring a different kind of season in which he struggled at times and was the subject of trade rumors, with Dallas seemingly ready to end his nine-year tenure with the club. The 33-year-old Turco, in the last year of his contract, survived the trade deadline and is trying to help the Stars reach the playoffs. Dallas rode Turco to a 4-3 shootout win at Washington on Monday. He made a career-high 49 saves as the Stars ended a three-game slide.

Zach Parise doesn’t care where the New Jersey Devils play as they try to reverse a tailspin that has dropped them out of the Atlantic Division lead. Returning home for the first time in nearly a month might help. Fresh off a defeat to the worst team in the NHL, the Devils will try to rebound Wednesday night when they host the New York Rangers. New Jersey built an eight-point advantage on Pittsburgh in the division and led the Eastern Conference after beating the Rangers 1-0 in a shootout Jan. 12. However, the Devils have since gone 6-12-2, dropping five points back of the first-place Penguins and 18 behind conference-leading Washington.

The dismal stretch features a 2-10-1 road record, capped by Sunday’s 2-0 loss to league-worst Edmonton as New Jersey was outshot 35-22. The Devils, who host Pittsburgh on Friday, are in position to finish the last month of the regular season in strong fashion, playing all 18 of their remaining games in the Eastern time zone with 11 at the Prudential Center. They’ve split their last eight at home and are 20-9-1 there this season. New Jersey hasn’t played in Newark since a 5-2 win over Nashville on Feb. 12.

The Carolina Hurricanes were the last team to win in regulation at Washington, and they’re one of the NHL’s hottest clubs as they get set to return to the nation’s capital. After acquiring a pair of players for the stretch run from their Southeast Division rival before the trading deadline, the NHL-leading Capitals are expected to have Joe Corvo and Scott Walker face their former club for the first time Wednesday night. Washington’s 18-1-1 record in its last 20 home games is a big reason why the Capitals have a 13-point lead atop the Eastern Conference.

But their only regulation defeat in that stretch was a 6-3 loss to Carolina on Dec. 28 as the Hurricanes’ Eric Staal had two goals and three assists. At the time, Carolina was last in the East. The victory began an 18-9-0 stretch for the Hurricanes, who’ve won eight of their last nine and climbed out of the conference cellar. But thanks to an injury-riddled start, Carolina’s playoff chances are slim one season after reaching the East finals. The Hurricanes were sellers last Wednesday, sending Corvo and Walker to Washington in separate deals.

The Chicago Blackhawks may be headed for their first division title in 17 years, but their goaltending has not been up to par lately. The Blackhawks will start Antti Niemi on Wednesday night when they host the Los Angeles Kings, who are coming off one of their best performances of the season. Chicago is comfortably leading the Central Division as it tries for its first division title since 1992-93. The Blackhawks have won five of seven, but Niemi and Cristobal Huet have combined to give up 26 goals. Huet has struggled at times since signing a four-year, $22.5 million contract before the 2008-09 season. He is 4-4-1 with a 3.06 goals-against average in his last 11 games.

Niemi, the backup most of the season, has also struggled of late, going 4-2-0 with a 3.51 GAA in seven contests. He was pulled in his most recent start after allowing three goals on 12 shots in a 5-3 road loss to the New York Islanders last Tuesday. The goaltending struggles continued in a 5-4 home loss to Detroit on Sunday, as the Blackhawks gave up five goals on 10 shots in the second period. Huet was pulled midway through the period after surrendering the first four.

The Canucks visit Arizona on Wednesday to finally complete their string of 14 consecutive road games that spanned nearly six weeks, and they’ll hope to cap the epic trip with a third straight victory. The Vancouver Olympics necessitated the Canucks’ NHL-record road trip, which consisted of eight games before the NHL’s two-week break and six afterward to allow for General Motors Place to be converted.

Coach Alain Vigneault’s team has managed to stay afloat. Vancouver was 10-11-1 on the road before beginning the trip on Jan. 30, but it has gone 8-5-0 in the first 13 games. Regardless of the outcome of Wednesday’s contest, Vancouver will return home atop the Northwest Division, thanks in large part to Tuesday night’s 6-4 win at second-place Colorado. The Canucks erased a 4-1 deficit with five unanswered goals, riding Mikael Samuelsson’s first career hat trick and three-point nights from both Daniel and Henrik Sedin.

The Charlotte Bobcats are certainly taking care of business at home in their quest for the franchise’s first playoff berth. Finding success on the road has been a different story. The Bobcats take a three-game winning streak built at home to Philadelphia on Wednesday night, hoping that a matchup with the reeling 76ers can help them avoid a seventh loss in nine road contests. Charlotte has 20 games left to try to grab one of the Eastern Conference’s bottom four playoff spots, and if it could play a majority of those at Time Warner Cable Arena - where it’s 23-8 - it’d be in great shape.

Only half of the Bobcats’ remaining games are at home, however, meaning they’ll likely need to find a way to improve upon their 8-23 road record if they plan on playing in the postseason. Charlotte bounced back from a 104-80 loss at Boston last Wednesday by sweeping a three-game homestand, and Tuesday’s win was easily the most significant. The Bobcats recovered from a 15-point deficit to beat Miami 83-78, moving to 3-0 this season against their Southeast Division rivals. The victory moved Charlotte into a virtual tie with the Heat for the East’s seventh spot, and the Bobcats own the tiebreaker.

The Boston Celtics’ problems at home this season have been surprising. The Memphis Grizzlies’ recent road renaissance is equally shocking. While the Celtics look to buck both trends Wednesday night in Boston, the Grizzlies will be trying to extend the longest road winning streak in franchise history to seven. Dominance at home had been a hallmark of the Celtics’ recent success, with the team going 70-12 at the TD Garden in the first two seasons following the arrival of Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen. A defeat Wednesday would match that loss total in barely one-third of the games. Boston is 18-11 at home this season, and a win over the Grizzlies would match its longest home winning streak of the season - three.

The Celtics needed a fourth-quarter comeback to beat Washington 86-83 in their last home game Sunday, but Boston was on the other side of a late surge two nights later. Milwaukee outscored the visiting Celtics 14-7 on Tuesday night in the final 5:45 of its 86-84 victory. Boston got subpar contributions from some of its biggest stars, as Allen scored three points and was 0 of 3 from the field in 34 minutes, while Paul Pierce shot 3 of 13 and missed a potential game-tying jumper at the buzzer.

With Stuckey expected to miss a second straight game Wednesday night, the Pistons will try to end another skid by knocking off the surging Utah Jazz for the first time in nearly five years. While on the bench, Detroit’s third-year guard fell into the arms of strength and conditioning coach Arnie Kander during the third quarter of Friday’s 99-92 loss to Cleveland. An oxygen mask was put on his face and the team’s second-leading scorer with a career-best 17.1 points per game was wheeled to a waiting ambulance.

Stuckey was released from the renowned Cleveland Clinic the following afternoon. On Sunday, the Pistons ended a six-game slide by rallying for a 110-107 overtime victory over Houston in the opener of a four-game homestand. Bynum scored 12 points in place of Stuckey, who has no timetable for returning. The Pistons’ Tayshaun Prince had a season-high 29 points, and Richard Hamilton added 22. Both sat out Detroit’s ninth straight loss to Utah on Nov. 21 with injuries. Ben Gordon scored 25 points, but the Pistons fell 100-97 in overtime.

Close games have been the norm recently for the Miami Heat, who find themselves battling to stay in playoff position. No team has had to sweat out anything lately against the Los Angeles Clippers. The Heat look to put a loss to a fellow Eastern Conference playoff hopeful behind them Wednesday night when they open a six-game homestand against the Clippers, who have dropped each of their last four games by at least 17 points. Twenty-one of Miami’s first 54 games were decided by 15 points or more, but it seems routinely being involved in blowouts has become a thing of the past for coach Erik Spoelstra’s club.

The Heat have seen seven of their last 10 games decided by six points or fewer. Miami won its first three games in March by an average of 4.3 points to pull into seventh place in the East - ahead of Charlotte and Chicago - but tripped up against one of its pursuers Tuesday. The Heat led by nine points with under nine minutes to play at Charlotte but fell apart from there. The Bobcats closed the game on a 20-6 run in the final 8:57 to beat Miami 83-78 and pull into a tie for the East’s No. 7 seed. Dwyane Wade had 27 points for the Heat, but only four after the 8:51 mark of the third quarter. It was the first time in 21 games this season Miami lost when holding an opponent under 90 points.

Anthony, among the league leaders with 28.7 points per game, has scored 30 or more in three straight games for the first time since a five-game run from Dec. 8-16. He has also been distributing the ball, recording at least four assists in each of the last four games.

Anthony’s unselfish play set the tone for the Nuggets over the last three games, as they averaged 29.0 assists in that span. They may need to continue to share the ball consistently with Kenyon Martin out. The forward missed the last two contests and is sidelined indefinitely after beginning plasma therapy for chronic patella tendinitis Monday. Martin is averaging 11.8 points and a team-best 9.6 rebounds, and his physical defense is also a key to Denver’s success. After Joey Graham started for Martin and had eight points and three rebounds in a victory over Indiana on Friday, coach George Karl gave Johan Petro his first start of the season Sunday. The fifth-year center responded with six points and a season-high 10 boards.

Durant scored 30 points and Westbrook had 26 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds in a 103-99 win over New Orleans in that meeting. The victory is part of a 14-3 stretch that has Oklahoma City battling for a top-four spot in the West. While Paul has been unable to help the Hornets, Durant has gotten plenty of help from Westbrook as the Thunder have climbed in the standings. Westbrook has averaged 20.0 points and 9.8 assists over the last 10 games. He scored 21 points with eight rebounds and four assists in a 108-102 win over Sacramento on Sunday that closed a three-game trip.

Even with a shortened bench, the Dallas Mavericks keep getting quality efforts from their rotation. It could be even thinner Wednesday night, but there’s little reason to think they won’t keep winning. The Mavericks go for their 13th straight victory while extending the woeful New Jersey Nets’ decade-long losing streak in Dallas. With Jason Terry, Brendan Haywood and Erick Dampier sidelined, the Mavericks had only nine players available Monday in Minnesota but rolled to a 125-112 victory.

With Terry not expected to return until later this month, J.J. Barea has seen increased minutes in the Dallas backcourt. However, the point guard left Monday’s game with an ankle injury and was taken for X-rays, though he told the team’s official Web site he thinks his foot is sprained and not broken. Shawn Marion, whose previous season high was 18 points, scored 29 and grabbed 14 rebounds as Dallas extended the league’s longest active winning streak and the franchise’s best since a 17-0 stretch from Jan. 27-March 11, 2007.

Tony Parker won’t need surgery on his broken right hand, which should be good news for the San Antonio Spurs come playoff time. In the present, however, they will need to find ways to win without their second-leading scorer. The Spurs, losers of three straight when Parker is out of the lineup, host the New York Knicks on Wednesday night. Parker is expected to miss about six weeks, but may be able to return for the playoffs upon learning that he will not need surgery, which could have ended his season. The Spurs are in seventh place in the West, 4 1/2 games ahead of ninth-place Memphis.

Parker has dealt with injuries all season and San Antonio fell to 5-6 without him in a 97-95 loss to Cleveland on Monday. The Cavaliers played without LeBron James and Shaquille O’Neal as they snapped the Spurs’ four-game winning streak. Manu Ginobili, making his second start of the season, finished with a season-high 38 points. He has averaged 18.1 points in 10 games without Parker, up from his 14.6 season average. Parker helped key a 95-88 win over the Knicks on Dec. 27, scoring 22 points while Ginobili had 17. The Spurs have won six straight against New York in San Antonio.

With an Eastern Conference playoff berth in danger of slipping away, the Toronto Raptors are hoping Chris Bosh continues to recover quickly from his recent seven-game absence. Perhaps facing the Sacramento Kings will help the All-Star forward return to form. Bosh seeks his second excellent performance against the Kings this season Wednesday night, when the visiting Raptors try to bounce back from a demoralizing loss and avoid their seventh defeat in eight games.

The Raptors had won 18 of 25 before Bosh sprained his left ankle. They went 3-4 in his absence, with the wins coming at the expense of three struggling clubs - New Jersey, Washington and New York. Toronto has also dropped both games since Bosh’s return, including a heartbreaking 109-107 defeat to the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night to open a four-game Western road trip. Bosh hit a rare 3-pointer - his eighth of the season and second of the contest - to tie the game with 10 seconds remaining, but Lakers star Kobe Bryant answered, draining a game-winning 17-foot fallaway jumper with 1.9 seconds left.
