Montreal, which last lost four straight during an 0-4-1 skid Dec. 10-17, 2009, will try to avoid a season-worst third consecutive home loss as it welcomes the Maple Leafs for the second time in 2010-11. Carey Price made 30 saves and recorded his eighth career shutout in a 2-0 win over Toronto on Nov. 20 that snapped the Maple Leafs’ 4-0-1 run in Montreal. Price, among the league leaders with 26 wins, could be back in net after giving up a career-high eight goals Wednesday and getting the night off Thursday when backup Alex Auld turned away 30 shots. Price was 5-2-2 with a 2.01 goals-against average in his previous nine games.

All-Star Phil Kessel is tied for second on the club with six power-play goals, but he has not scored in 13 straight games, two off a career high. Kessel scored in each of Toronto’s two home wins over the Canadiens this season - 3-2 on Oct. 7 and 3-1 on Dec. 11 - but he has no goals in 13 career games at the Bell Centre.The last time the Leafs lost twice at Montreal in one season was 2007-08. James Reimer is making a strong case to remain in goal for Toronto. The 22-year-old rookie, splitting time with Jean-Sebastien Giguere since Jonas Gustavsson was shipped to the AHL last week, made 37 saves in Thursday’s 2-1 overtime loss to New Jersey.

The Hurricanes are 1-5-1 in their last seven away from home, being outscored 23-11 in that stretch after a 2-1 loss in Philadelphia on Thursday. He’s 1-3-1 with a 2.77 goals-against average in his last five starts and 1-5-2 with a 2.77 GAA in his last eight on the road. Since a 6-4 home victory Jan. 15 against Tampa Bay, the Hurricanes are 4-6-1 and have been shut out twice. Despite the slump, Tuomo Ruutu likened Carolina’s position to that of last season’s Flyers, who made the Stanley Cup finals as a No. 7 seed.

Tampa Bay and the now-defunct California Golden Seals in 1975-76 are the only teams in NHL history to host 12 straight games. Carolina Hurricanes haven’t done much to solidify their postseason case of late as their offense has struggled. That may change if the Tampa Bay Lightning can’t figure out how to stop the opposition’s attack. Tampa Bay continues its NHL record-tying 12-game homestand Saturday night against Carolina, which has dropped four of five. The Lightning allowed six total goals and recorded back-to-back shutouts during a six-game winning streak from Jan. 18-Feb. 1. They’ve lost two of three since while giving up 15 goals, including five in the third period Tuesday in a 7-4 loss to Buffalo.

The Predators hope Fisher will make his debut Saturday night while trying to deal the Colorado Avalanche a seventh straight loss in Peter Forsberg’s second game during his latest comeback.Nashville is in the thick of the Western Conference playoff race, but on a 2-4-1 stretch after winning 10 of the previous 12, including 5-1 at Colorado on Jan. 20.

The Blackhawks had a tough time Friday overcoming the loss of right wing Fernando Pisani, center Ryan Johnson and left wing Viktor Stalberg, as all three sustained upper-body injuries and didn’t return. Coach Joel Quenneville said the three are day-to-day and will be evaluated on Saturday. The Blackhawks scored twice just over four minutes into Friday’s game against Dallas, and took a 3-0 lead less than 13 minutes in, but ended up losing 4-3 in a shootout. It was the fifth loss in seven games for Chicago, which has been outscored 9-2 in the third period of those defeats.

Quenneville is expected to go with Corey Crawford in net after backup Marty Turco played in his return to Dallas. Crawford, who has never faced Phoenix, is 1-3-0 with a 2.53 goals-against average in his last four starts after going 4-0-1 with a 0.97 GAA and two shutouts in his previous five. Blackhawks are 11th in the West and three points behind the Flames, but Quenneville is trying to remain optimistic. Phoenix has allowed an average of 23.0 shots in winning its last three after yielding an average of 34.3 in its previous six. The Coyotes had lost six of eight prior to this winning streak, allowing at least four goals in each of those defeats.

The Blues look to start increasing the Western Conference’s lowest road point total Saturday night when they head to the Xcel Energy Center to take on the surging Minnesota Wild, who will try to sweep the home-and-home series. Playing in St. Paul, though, may not immediately brighten the Blues’ outlook as St. Louis has been outscored 12-5 and gone 1 for 13 on the power play while losing three straight in Minnesota. Sixteen of St. Louis’ remaining 29 contests are on the road, where it’s 8-12-5 - something that may ultimately prevent the club from a playoff berth for the second straight season. The Blues are in 13th place and seven points behind Calgary for the West’s final playoff spot with four games in hand.

Roberto Luongo is 8-1-2 with a 1.91 goals-against average in his last 11 home games versus Calgary. He made 30 saves through overtime Jan. 22, but gave up a goal to Alex Tanguay on the decisive third-round shootout attempt.

Calgary is on an 8-0-2 run, but also trying to rebound from a loss to the Ducks after falling 5-4 in overtime Friday. Glencross has been hot of late, scoring a goal in three consecutive games while totaling six and adding three assists over the last nine. He committed a costly penalty Friday, however, getting whistled for hooking before Anaheim scored on the power play to force overtime. Miikka Kiprusoff will likely be back in net after allowing five goals on 30 shots against the Ducks. He had 41 saves through overtime at Vancouver on Jan. 22, but is 4-9-1 with a 4.33 GAA over his last 14 games there. Daniel and Henrik Sedin have combined for nine goals and 13 assists in their last seven meetings with the Flames.

Following another embarrassing defeat, the Hawks will look to bounce back against the Bobcats again as they try for an eighth consecutive home victory in the series Saturday night. Playing without All-Star center Al Horford for the second consecutive game, Atlanta suffered its second-biggest defeat of the season with a 117-83 loss to Philadelphia on Tuesday night.

Lopez, who scored a season-high 36 against the Knicks earlier this season, has 51 points and 18 rebounds in his last two games.

The Knicks struggled defensively again in a 113-96 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday. Stoudemire had 24 points and 10 rebounds, but New York couldn’t contain Kobe Bryant, who finished with 33 points. Two nights earlier, the Knicks gave up 116 points in a defeat to the Los Angeles Clippers. New York Knicks’ defensive struggles have them in danger of falling below .500 for the first time in more than two months. Amare Stoudemire and the Knicks try to avoid that fate and a third straight loss Saturday night when they visit a New Jersey Nets team seeking its first three-game winning streak in more than two years.

Manu Ginobili had eight points while shooting 2 of 10 from the floor, and Tony Parker finished with nine points. While his teammates couldn’t get anything going, Tim Duncan recorded his 19th double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds. It was the Spurs’ first loss of the season in a game where Duncan had a double-double.

Washington Wizards have a chance to end a skid against the San Antonio Spurs that’s lasted more than five years. The Wizards try to avoid an 11th straight loss to the Spurs when the teams meet Saturday night in the nation’s capital. Six players scored in double figures for Washington as its eight-game losing streak came to an end with a 100-85 home win over Milwaukee on Wednesday night. The 13-time All Star had only five points when these teams met in San Antonio on Dec. 26, but the Spurs won 94-80. Young also had a tough night for Washington, finishing with 10 points on 5-of-19 shooting.

The Bulls have won their last two visits.New Orleans has struggled in back-to-back scenarios, going 5-7 when playing for the second consecutive night. Chicago remains in the hunt for the Eastern Conference’s best record. Despite shooting just 35.4 percent and being outrebounded by 11, Philadelphia defeated NBA-leading San Antonio 77-71 on Friday with a spectacular defensive effort. The 76ers held the Spurs to 33.3 percent and forced 16 turnovers. Kevin Love, averaging a team-high 21.4 points, increased his franchise record for consecutive double-doubles to 39 with 22 points and 15 rebounds. It’s the longest run since Moses Malone recorded 44 straight for Philadelphia during the 1982-1983 season. Love is averaging 10.3 points and 6.3 rebounds in three career games versus the 76ers.

The Rockets lost three in a row in a brutal stretch against Dallas, San Antonio and the Lakers from Jan. 27-Feb. 1, then responded with impressive wins over Utah, Memphis and Denver. The Mavericks are 22-5 when they grab more boards than their opponent. But in a season filled with inconsistency, Houston’s failure to take care of business against Minnesota shouldn’t have been a total surprise. After beating the Nuggets on the road Monday, the Rockets returned home and lost 112-108 to the Timberwolves, who entered the game 3-23 away from home.

Dallas should have a good opportunity to do just that. Six of the Mavericks’ next eight opponents have losing records, starting with their first visit to Houston (24-28) since a 97-94 loss Dec. 31, 2009. The Mavericks were in excellent shape to stretch their streak to 11 in Denver, leading 119-110 with 2:51 to play. But Nuggets guard Arron Afflalo got hot, scoring seven of his team’s final 11 points and hitting a buzzer-beater to hand Dallas a 121-120 defeat. Dallas held a nine-point cushion with under three minutes to play yet still watched its 10-game streak slip away, a loss it’ll try to bounce back from Saturday night when it visits the Houston Rockets. There have been seven double-digit winning streaks in the league this season, and the Mavericks own two of them.

Indiana defeated Minnesota 116-105 on Friday, improving to 6-1 since Vogel took over for the fired Jim O’Brien, and with the lone loss coming against Southeast Division-leading Miami. This stretch has helped the Pacers climb into the Eastern Conference’s final playoff spot, pulling within one game of seventh-place Philadelphia, while opening a two-game lead over Charlotte.
